This winter I was talking to Jodi Tormey, who owns a local baby boutique, and we were talking how when you're pregnant in Boston, and you want to make a baby registry and add clothes to it... but you're not sure exactly what clothes you'll need because it feels like the seasons change so quickly around here...
And we said...
Wouldn't it be cool it would be if someone wrote a guide for new parents to use while they're making registries for their tiny little Boston babies?
So we did. That was the whole month of January for me - working on this guide with Jodi.
I designed it, I used ALL MY PHOTOS - no stock photography! - and called it:
"Dressing A Baby For Boston Weather"
I'm Jess, and I've been a baby photographer here in the Boston area for a long time. I teamed up with local boutique-owner Jodi Tormey, and we wrote
--> a 16 page resource guide
for you to all about exactly this.
The resource guide is chock full of specifics. We've got:
--> clothing ideas for the first six months (i.e. how many onesies will we really need?)
--> brands we’re loving
--> due-date specific recommendations for what you'll need
--> adorable baby photos (by yours truly) peppered throughout, natch
--> and links to so many local Boston boutiques…
Here’s what it looks like. Isn’t it so pretty?
I understand if you don't want to download the whole thing right now, so I'll break it up into bite-size chunks for you.
Oh, wait, you *do* want to download the whole thing?
We wrote it especially for the members of my Boston Baby Photos "Year One Together" VIP Group on Facebook - and it's hosted there. I'd love to have you come join us in there! I interview local baby experts every week live in the group, and I have lots of resources and connections in the area. If you live in Boston and you're expecting a baby or you have a baby under a year, I'd love it if you'd join the group here.
But I digress. (As usual, sorry.)
Let’s just open it to any random page of the Dressing Your Baby for Boston Weather Resource Guide.
OK. Page 10.
Awww. Look at that little love bug, I remember that photoshoot. All snuggled in his swaddle blanket.
Sorry, got distracted by the sweet babe.
Swaddles & Sleep Sacks We Love
Swaddles and sleep sacks aren't clothing, they're so much more. Swaddles are the perfect multi-purpose item because they’re essentially a large piece of fabric that can be used to wrap your baby, as a burp cloth, as a floor mat, a blanket, or to cover for privacy.
Look for muslin, 100% organic cotton or bamboo.
I think the number one brand of swaddles that you should look at is Stina & Mae, partly because I love Mishell, who owns the company and who totally helped me out by coming into my Year One Together Facebook VIP Group for an interview all about this stuff (because OMG she's a total expert and I can't believe she took the time out of her day to shmooze with me for a whole conversation about this) but also because she's a local maker! She makes these beautiful organic snuggle blankets and you'll love them! Go peek at her website. They're handcrafted... here, in Boston! Our interview is embedded below - you can go watch the whole thing right here on this page, in fact.
But if you're expecting or you have a new baby and live in the Boston area, come watch in the group! I've saved the recording in the group so if you want to come watch it there, too!
Here's the link to JOIN YEAR ONE TOGETHER
This was our advertising for the conversation before it happened...
And here's the entire 30 minute interview - and if you like it, come join the group!
I do interviews like this every two weeks live in the group with local baby experts who address "pain points" for families navigating their baby's first year here in the Boston area.
That’s it for today’s tiny snippit from my Dressing Your Baby For Boston Weather Resource Guide. It's really chock full of good stuff.
Want to read/download it all?
I'd love to give it to you. Come join us in my Boston Baby Photos VIP Facebook Group - that's where you can download the whole thing. My group is new, and it's called Year One Together. It's a group for new parents who are getting excited about or already navigating their baby's first year here in the Boston area. I interview local experts in all things baby every Friday, and then those interviews are saved in the group archive so you can watch them anytime. Topics the experts are covering in their interviews with me will include: "Do I want a Doula? A Midwife?", "Sensory Play Ideas for Babies", "Postpartum: The Emotional Side", "Designing a Nursery: Do's and Don'ts"... and so much more.
Hope to see you in there!
I'm Jessica McDaniel, and May 2021 will mark my 18th anniversary photographing babies and their families all around Boston.
