Remember Erin and Evan?
They did their walking around Charlestown maternity photoshoot in August and I blogged about it a few weeks later?
Their babe arrived!
They opted to wait a few weeks to do the first session for their Baby's First Year package, so K was 7 weeks old when we met up last week. It was chilly but not freezing... Never know with November, but we lucked out!
We started on their beautiful stoop, which they'd just had redone. We got to document those big sisters and little K - the whole team.
Little tiny baby parts are so important to remember to document! I love showing the difference between tiny baby parts and grown up parts - that's what really shows off how small they are.
Fun sometimes to wait until after 6-7 weeks for those first pictures... once in a while you might even get a smile! This is hard to guarantee outdoors, though - and with my social distancing outdoor minishoots I do have to stay outside for our short little 20 minute sessions.
Weather sure does makes things complicated, weather-wise in New England, but we make do. I work all year round and have found workarounds for all weather situations for baby photoshoots outdoors.
(Sometimes it just means rescheduling, of course. These days I spend my life checking my weather apps. Expected wind speed, 5 day forecast, 3 hour forecast... gotta be on top of it all - ha!)
Oh, I can't forget to point you to my new Baby's First Year minishoot package info. I wanted to remember to put that in here. I just published the whole updated plan - I'm doing all social distancing outdoor minishoots, and I've adjusted my one most popular Baby's First Year package (the one with three photoshoots in the first year + a coffeetable album) for Covid-times, so it costs less than it used to. I'm excited Erin and her family are going for it this year. So this first tiny babe session with K? This would be their first one in the package... then we'll do six months and a year, and then make the album. (They decided to do their maternity session as a one-off minishoot - it makes the most sense when you want to do the package.)
But I digress.
TINY PERSON CUTENESS!! A BEGINNING OF A SMILE!!
Snuggle time with Daddy...
And of course with mama, too...
And they had a pretty brick wall just by their front steps, so we did a few over there, too.
We opted not to wander as much for this session.
Often I find the wandering photos are best kept for maternity and then we can pick up our wandering again at the one year pictures and beyond.
When you've got a small person to tend to, it's nice to stay close to home.
Oh, the tootsies!!
Again with the smiles, miss K! You melt me!

Not sure if you want to do photos, but the whole "having a new baby in your house" thing is happening? I just launched a new VIP Facebook Group and I would just ADORE it if you'd come hang out with me in there!
My new group is called Year One Together.
It's for new parents who are getting excited about or already navigating their baby's first year here in the Boston area. I interview local experts in all things baby every Friday, and then those interviews are saved in the group archive so you can watch them anytime. Topics the experts are covering in their interviews with me will include: "Dressing your Baby in Boston Weather", "Do I want a Doula? A Midwife?", "Buying a First Home around Boston", "Postpartum: The Emotional Side", "Year One With Twins"... and so much more. Hope to see you in there!
Don't have a baby in your house right now, but you live in the Boston area and want a fun online community of families to connect with? Come join my group for families with older children - it's called Boston Families Together and you can join that group here.
Or you could go check out Erin's maternity pictures here, and then I also posted a sweet testimonial video that she sent me about our work together for those first two sessions.
You can watch the video of Erin talking here.
I'm Jessica McDaniel, and May 2021 will mark my 18th anniversary photographing babies and their families all around Boston.
