Did you use a doula for your babies' births?
Did you know there are *only* 7 - yes, seven - Black doulas registered in Massachusetts on the SistaMidwifeDirectory.com? In a 2017 report of live births in Massachusetts of the over 70,000 births, 7,251 of those babies were born to Black women.
There just aren't enough Black doulas in the Boston area - and I want to introduce you to someone who's working to change that.
Her name is Adriana Jean-Louis. Officially a doula, she's also a Midwife-in-Training.

Adriana has worked with over 100 families in the past four years as a doula, and she wants to train more Black doulas in the Boston area to do what she does - so she's put together a scholarship program to make her doula training more accessible. She's heard from other potential doulas that the cost of doula training is a major barrier to becoming doulas. (Training + certifying as a doula with Adriana costs $748.) The scholarship that she's created is completely dedicated to training and certifying Black doulas at no cost.
I want to help her raise the funds for this scholarship program. (She's got loads of information about it on her "Doula Training Scholarship" program page here.)
So I told her I'd shout about her Doula Training Scholarship program from the rooftops to encourage lots of people to donate to the fund.
Honestly, this lady is beautiful inside and out.
She's an absolute treasure - working to add diversity to the doula community in Boston!
And now can I interest you in learning some more about Adriana's Doula Training Program and the Scholarship Fund she's organizing? She's written on her website about her passion for the project, you can read all about it and find the Paypal link here.
Thank you Adriana, for being a force for change!
