It was the middle of the summer when I hopped in my hot little Honda and toodled down Rt 24 to Newport, RI to meet up with these guys for photos during their week of vacation.
I love doing that, meeting for photos while people are off work - the relaxation is palpable - the days are just perfect... rain or shine, I just love the feel of vacation photoshoots.
We started off with some reading with mama pictures... always a hit...
And then Mr. Nearly Four Years Old showed us some fun poses...
And was even willing to smile while being smooched - a tough ask, I know.
A few shots on the stairs...
And then we went outside. This middle shot of these guys holding hands just absolutely melts me.
Passed back through the house, while, of course, still holding leaves from the back yard...
And out to the front of the house, where we got to my favorite part of the session. I heard this guy whispering something to his dad, and I asked what he'd said. They had a family term for what he wanted to do, "car talk" or something... and now, as I write this six weeks after the session the term has escaped me... but basically his parents explained that he wanted to play in my car.
Turns out he, like his mom's dad and uncle before him, is a total gearhead. Joy comes, for this incredible nearly four year old boy, when he's discovering an engine or the inside of a new car. He knew from just seeing the headlights of my car that it was a Honda Civic, and he was just over the moon excited when I told him of course he could go play in my hot (middle of July-heat!) car.
So there he was, mere moments later... figuring out all the fabulous buttons on my car's dashboard, and holding my ice scraper with a big smile on his face.
Because you know what? All that matters is fun in photoshoots. I don't care where we go, I don't care what we do. I want kids to adore what they're doing... and it'll show.
After the brief stop in my hot car, this guy was willing to cross the street to attempt some family shots overlooking the ocean in Newport.
Of course, as I mentioned - it was HOT out there... and this guy was only willing to hang out over there for a few minutes... see exhibition A shot with dad below... but at least he got a family cuddle before everything fell apart.
I just absolutely adored seeing you all this summer, thank you for having me!
My fall photoshoot calendar is online here if you're interested in grabbing a session with me:
I'm Jessica McDaniel, and May 2021 will mark my 18th anniversary photographing babies and their families all around Boston.
