If you've never experienced a Korean Dol Celebration, make sure you say YES if the invite comes across your desk. It's a beautiful way to mark a baby's first birthday, full of color and cake and cuteness. This was O’s big day at his home in Cambridge, but it was his third session this year with Boston Baby Photos since his family did the Baby’s First Year package. I'm so glad we can see the progression to the crowning moment of choosing his career--haha!--but seriously, more on this below.
Dol Celebration in Cambridge, MA
Sometimes, when you’ve just woken up from a nap, you’re not ready for the doljanchi, no matter how many friends and family you’ve invited over.
But when your mama’s set up a really sweet little table with all the doljabi items to consider (and possibly even a career path to pursue later in life as the custom goes) it’s worth a try to grab that shot BEFORE you put on your outfit… and then do it again when you’re wearing your hanbok.
And then your other grandparents arrive, just in time to see you in your hanbok. They agree, you wear it well.
And then, drumroll please, it’s time to decide! He’s destined for a life on the bench, guys - he grabbed the gavel first.
But then he went for some pencils, so you never know. Maybe he’ll pen some bestsellers, as well.
Soon enough, it was time for cake. With Grandpa’s hand on his head, he went for it.
A Dol Celebration tastes delish!
Ooh, wait, don't wash off the frosting! I wanted to eat that!
