West Roxbury Newborn family photoshoot – Big sister cuddles

Late in August, I got the opportunity to go to this family’s home in West Roxbury for a newborn family photoshoot for little 3-week-old J and his big sister M.

Big sister M, at 8 years old, is an incredible help to her parents with her little brother. She was careful and gentle with the newest member of the family—and she especially loved little bro’s cute new toes. It’s not hard to love those little toes, he really does have adorable little tiny feet.

It really was something else for me to see M as a big girl helping to take care of J. I have known her since she and my daughter (my Sadie is the same age as M) were in nursery school together. It seems like only yesterday I was taking M’s school photos back at Ashmont Nursery School when she was a wee 3 year old babe! (I do love me some nursery school photos, always.)

But I digress. Look at all this family cuddling!

Family hangout time = the best pictures

Now I got to document this gorgeous family as they transition from a family of three to a family of four, and I loved every second of it. All of the pictures of the four of them really captured how relaxed they are and how much fun they have together.

Dad seriously has the best relationship with his little man. My favorite shot with J and Daddy was when J was yelling—and Dad was giving it right back to him. Hilarious and adorable.

Mama also got some quiet moments with her sweet little boy. I loved it when she kissed J’s head, in such a natural, unprompted moment of togetherness. There’s something really special about the quiet moments between a mama and her boy.

Big sister sweetness

I couldn’t get over J’s beautiful, full head of hair. He has so much of it at only three weeks old. You can definitely see it on the pictures of him lying on the blanket. M is rocking her big sister role in these moments too. That brother/sister dynamic never fails to make me smile.

This family was just having such a good time hanging out together. It’s easy to get genuine smiles like these when a family is just enjoying each other’s company. Candid smiles, natural laughter.  It doesn’t get much better than this.
