I met up with V’s family at her home in JP (Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, for any non-locals) late in August for a really wonderful newborn session.
When I arrived for this session, little V was pretty exhausted. She was awake for the first few minutes, but then she zonked out. That's fine with me—sweet little sleeping babies take me back to my photography class days. It’s almost like photographing subjects in still-life. And V is such a little love that we got wonderful photos no matter what she was doing -- because snoozing or awake, she’s perfect.
I mean, look at that little foot, just the size of daddy's thumb!
Both of V’s parents are doctors, so they're really comfortable holding their new baby and caring for her. For many new families, those first days are full of new experiences holding and swaddling and soothing their baby, but these two are already well-practiced, and it shows.
Of course, that doesn’t mean they aren't wrapped up in the experience of being new parents, either! They are head over heels for their sweet new girl. I love the way they look at her. It truly is magical being there as parents fall in love with their new babies.
But I do like to stick around and get some pictures with a baby’s eyes open when I can, because I love to document family relationships -- when babies are looking at their parents and experiencing their world. Little personalities appear...
And look who woke up!
Luckily, little Miss V woke up just before I had to zip off to my next photoshoot.
Once she was awake, Miss V gave us some great smiles...
I do love a newborn smile—so rare (so random) and so fantastic. Not to mention she had just had a meal and a bath before I got there, which meant her sweet spiky hair was incredibly soft and perfect.
Thank you so much for having me! I adored meeting you guys and V, and I really look forward to seeing all of you another time.
