Just setting records over here… nbd. This has got to be the biggest Boston Baby Photos picture ever.  You may have even seen it on 93 if you were driving North into the city recently. For about three weeks this photo that I took of two fabulously adorable Ashmont Nursery School kiddos has been rotating through the New England Carpenter’s Training Center’s LED sign. The sign itself is 30 ft x 20 ft high – yowsa! You photo buffs will be interested to learn that the image I needed to send them was not super high res at all – this enormous, gi-huge-ic LED display supports images that are only 400 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall. In photo terms, that’s super low-res. For reference, that’s the same size as the photos here on my blog – not normally high enough resolution for print, let alone display on anything large.  Isn’t that interesting? The other cool fact that photo nerds out there will appreciate? Vertically, the display only depicts every third pixel of the image – it’s just a function of the kind of LED sign it is. I just thought that was super fascinating, wanted to share.

Now here’s a shot from the side of the highway (I pulled over completely, don’t worry – and snapped this with my iPhone from a parked, safe position, I promise):

Now wait, Jess, you ask – what is that photo all about? Well, I’m glad you asked. This Saturday, one of my favorite places in the world, the Ashmont Nursery School, is holding its annual auction to benefit the school’s scholarship fund. This spring I’ve donated two of my 26 minishoots to charity, so even though I’m sold out and have a waiting list for Public Garden minishoots this spring, there’s an opportunity this Saturday to bid on the 11am Sat, 4/27 appointment plus all the high res files. In past years it’s gone for lots less than the $625 face value – you’ll likely get a deal.

Interested? You can either come to the ANS auction (see link below) or you can bid via text during the live auction (Saturday 8-8:30pm). To get in on the text bidding, email me and we’ll set it up.

More minishoot info is here.

And here’s the link to the auction itself.
