Jessica loved this photo – from Georgianna’s perfect curl and little kiss, to Beatrix’s tiny baby face – but at first, I wasn’t so sure. It does seem to perfectly capture sisterly love. But when I first saw it, back when Beatrix was only about two months old, I only saw what I was experiencing at the time: Georgie’s ambivalence towards her real life baby doll… sometimes loving, sometimes aggressive. So I went away from the photo for a little while. Now that Georgie has adapted, and Beatrix is old enough to fight back a little, I have the photo prominently displayed in our family room. I love looking at my two beautiful girls. Where I once saw anger, I now see fun and laughter. Where I once felt exhausted, I now feel optimistic. Georgie and Beatrix will always have their ups and downs, but they are lucky to join a long family tradition of strong sister relationships, and that makes me so happy. Thanks, Jessica, for showing me what I couldn’t see right away!
