Westfield NJ newborn photos with her big sister

On Friday after school my kids and I hopped in the car in Milton, MA and grabbed my husband from work so we could drive down to Westfield, NJ to (finally) take newborn photos of my beloved college roommate’s new baby.

newborn photos with her big sister

A busy time of life: but still time for newborn photos

They’re deep in it, guys. You can picture it — they have a 22 month old and a 2 month old. They’re busy! But this also means they’re card-carrying members of that elusive, ephemeral club that I love to document: the two under two club.

We’re talking that time of life when you’re feeding the newborn and you have to call out to the twenty-two month old and suggest she wait to go up the stairs until she has someone with her… it’s a lot.

But I’m so grateful that we took the time to do these newborn photos! Photos are so precious when we’re able to do them at this time of life — so we can remember the way big sister was so loving with her baby sister… the kisses on the top of her head, the gentle pats B gave M… just so much love.

Love just bursting, bubbling, oozing out of them, all the time. Joy, love, gratitude… they have all of it in spades.

newborn photos with her big sister

I adored meeting miss M, and loved seeing big sister B. And they even indulged me and let me do a wall consulting meeting while I was there! May as well peek at frames and talk about what to hang where when we’re shooting pictures, right? Why not?

Two under two, and everything’s fine

Big brother M wasn’t yet two, and his new baby brother J was five weeks old when we did these photos about two weeks ago, so they’re proud members of the two under two club! And hate to break it to you, but they sure do seem to have things under control. Either that, or they put on a pretty good show for photos. ;) I think this first one is my favorite, though. I just love mom and dad’s expressions as they look at each other.

Wonderful to see you guys as always!

Two under two and their fantastic energy

It was so fun meeting this new little guy this weekend – he’s 2 months old (tomorrow!) and his big brother is having a great time experimenting with his new role.  Whenever I take pictures of little guys where there are two children under two years old in the house, fantastic funny moments always seem to occur.  This time I ADORE the sequence of two pictures here, where big bro C is cuddling on little B, and then in the next moment Mom and Dad’s arms both come in to save B from being a little bit… oversqueezed.  Is that a word, by the way?

Wonderful to see you guys!

Welcome sweet boy

With a four year old big brother and a 22 month old big sister, little new 2 week old N is getting lots of love. They really are extraordinary with him – just so loving. I really like the crazy family pictures from this shoot – just a little slice of what life is really like these days :)

Three under two years old – and so relaxed!

I haven’t seen big brother B since he was three months old, and now he’s 21 months old and a pair of nearly 3 month old brothers have joined his family.  I loved spending some time with these gorgeous boys and their mama.  The ones that show how little all three of them are are my favorites.  All those chubby legs… The mama tickling B one, while the twins peek over at me.  All those legs in a row with mama playing.  And the not-posed one of mama holding the twins – I love what a sweet quiet moment that is.  Oh, and aunt Amy coming in for the last minute tweaks on B’s shirt.  Perfecto.

Thanks for making the drive, guys!

Caitlin - March 18, 2013 - 6:43 am

Jess – these are fantastic! I love the one of the 6 chubby legs in diapers. I think I’m going to hang it over the changing table. Thanks for a great shoot!

Leah Murphy - March 18, 2013 - 8:10 am

Beautiful photos of a wonderful family!

Amy Fox - March 18, 2013 - 8:44 am

Jess- amazing as always! I love all these photos. It was so fun to have you here again.

Nana - March 18, 2013 - 8:55 pm

So many wonderful pictures – such beautiful little boys!!!

Two STILL under two

Now you know these guys are close in age and their parents are rock stars for having them so close together when I’m back for a second photoshoot with the new baby (she’s not even a new baby any more, big girl!) and we still have a house of two under two.

She’s six months and he’s not yet two.  And, oh, by the way, they’re totally perfect.

Look at the grins!

Look at the rolls on this pretty lady:

With daddy:

And I love the dirt getting sprinkled in this one.  Hanging out in his favorite spot…

So fun to see you guys as always!

5 days old, with her big brother

Sweet G was born just five days ago, and her big 17 month old brother D is already getting a kick out of his new role as big brother.  (Except that apparently he refers to her as his new dog…)

And I had to show you a few color ones, since it’s that festive red holiday time of year :)  And I can’t forget to welcome these guys into my elite club of families with two under two!

Ho ho ho!

Stephanie - December 20, 2011 - 8:51 pm

Love love love!!!

Danielle - December 26, 2011 - 9:51 pm

What beautiful pictures! D & G are so cute and sweet!

Two under two, plus a bonus big boy

These guys are card carrying members of the “two under two” club, with a bonus 3 1/2 year old thrown in!  Busy, busy, busy.  And so much fun energy!

20 months old and 6 weeks old. So much love.

There’s something about the lines in this photo that I love.  The artwork on the wall and the bedspread kind of tie it all up in a nice bow for me, too.

Kinda love the mayhem in this one.

Love that dad made this face at/with J:

And so did Mom :)

Dimple :)

Really fun to see you guys as always!

New brudda, with stinky feet

E checked out her new brother B’s toes, and confirmed – p.u.! Or maybe not, but at least it made her giggle.  E is just 25 months older than her now one month old brother – so they narrowly missed membership in my exclusive two under two club – but I think maybe we can grant them honorary membership for a bit.

Especially when hangout time with the two of them includes moments like this:

And a few of just the little dude:

He looks SOOO much like his sister in this next one:

Loved seeing you guys! xo

Dear Jen and Peter, Thanks for sharing your photos. Your camera artist did a great job once again. The children are just beautiful. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. God bless you all. Love, Patty & Uncle Greg

Jim Johnson - November 2, 2011 - 3:47 pm

Jen and Peter: We were thrilled to see the photos of Emma and Benjamin. Your friend Jess is an excellent photographer. She caught the beauty of the children in their natural environment. I feel like I visited your home even though I’m 1,500 miles away. Love to you and Peter and your family. Great Uncle Jim

Heather Norton - November 3, 2011 - 2:01 pm

Love these pics! I always love checking out your site and seeing some familiar faces :) JJ, you look great – and your little ones are absolutely adorable. Nice job, Jess! :)

Amanda - November 7, 2011 - 9:26 pm

After having no power in CT for 10 days, it was a treat to see such adorable photos while digging through emails. E and B are beautiful children and lucky to have each other and their wonderful mom and dad! Jess, you capture great memories!

He’s three and she’s one

So I know I always gush about these guys on the blog, but I think the fact these two kids are practically our niece and nephew means I get to spend a minute or two telling you how amazing they are.  It’s a double birthday month for them – little sister L turned one early in July, and tomorrow is big brother H’s 3rd birthday.  It was a blink of an eye (ok, fine, maybe a long blink… it was 4 years) ago that I shot (my one and only EVAH, please don’t ask me to shoot your wedding, I’m soooo not a wedding photographer) their parents’ wedding, and now there are these two beautiful, perfect babies in the world, thanks to this awesome couple.  OK, photos will do the rest of the talking.  I just love these guys. Happy birthday, babies.

And of course, grins:

Sasha Chanoff - July 25, 2011 - 1:53 am

Watching Jess in action never ceases to amaze me. She has techniques to turn a sad / shy / unhappy child into a that’s-how-I-want-my-child-to-look-in-photos child. Simply brilliant!

molly chanoff - July 25, 2011 - 1:39 pm

these are sooooo beautiful! i am dying! jess! you are a MASTER!

marni chanoff - July 27, 2011 - 10:16 pm

It is hard to believe that these photos came from a quick shoot on a lazy afternoon. They are so incredible. Jess, these are the best gifts we could ever imagine getting. We love every one of them and will appreciate them and YOU more and more as our beautiful July babies get older. I mean, how many more years will they agree to the double diaper birthday shoot? Thank you!

Pindie Stephen - August 17, 2011 - 11:06 am

What wonderful pictures! And since I have not yet met the one-year old, and it has probably been at least a year and a half since our last meeting with Hayden (lovely BBQ in your backyard then!) I am so happy to have these to look at and marvel at how beautiful the two young Chanoffs are doing!

Sisters again!

It feels like it’s been a while since I took pictures of sisters (I’ve been in brothers mode for a few weeks), and I have to say I adored these guys last weekend.  Even though it was a rainy New England spring day, we had loads of fun playing inside.  Little sister O was born when big sister H was just a week shy of being 2 years old, so even though they’re not “two under two” anymore, they can still have membership in my elite club :)

This one cracks me up to no end.

This next shot just hollers mama with her two sweethearts to me – as O goes up in the air and H rolls around on the couch.  The energy in the whole picture is just so cool.

Don’t  you love O’s hand on H’s cheek?

More energy…

Loved getting to know you guys!

Kathleen - July 6, 2011 - 4:41 pm

Oh, my! As the mother of two little girls, I have a soft spot for sister shots. The pic of O looking up at H as they are hugging is priceless. Your girls will love looking back at these pictures when they are older and fighting over who used up all the hairspray.

Karen - July 7, 2011 - 12:55 pm

These are adorable – you’ve got some super-cute kids!! The one w/ Hannah crawling after Olivia is my fav.

Two gorgeous boys under two

I met these handsome boys two weekends ago, big 22 month old brother P, and little three week old brother N; and I was so impressed by how much attention P was lavishing on N.  I can only imagine the buddies they’re going to become in the next few years. It’s so exciting for me to get to see the beginning of a relationship like theirs :)

They’ve joined the ranks with many other fantastic families in my two-under-two club.  When I get to do a two-under-two shoot I am always excited for the challenge and ready to roll with it.  Never know what’s going to happen!  These guys were just wonderful.  I think this was my favorite moment, though:

Except maybe when P wanted to share his car with N:

We even got a moment of a smile from little N!

This one is just such a sweet art shot with his little hand hiding his face, I had to share…

Building a block tower with Daddy:

It was such a pleasure meeting you guys!

Another gorgeous two under two

A kiss? From a big brother who isn’t even two years old yet?

Rare.  And when it happens, and you also get curly eyelashes and an adorable three month old sticky-uppy do and sweet little splayed fingers… awesome.

Love this, nothing beats playing in my sister’s crib while she snoozes…

Great to see you guys as always!

Big happy sis, leetle sweet brudda

Favorite, favorite, favorite!  I love this one so much.

But this one’s pretty great too.

Wait, wait, I actually love this one a lot too.

The curls on big sister aren’t to be believed.

And the grins on little brother are pretty fantastic too.

These two are really close in age – less than 2 years apart.  So although when we did these photos big girl K was (just barely) 2, I’m sneaking them into my two under two category for this blog post, because I know what a challenge it is for parents who have children that close in age, and it’s fun to see photos of other families who’ve done the same.

Great to see you guys again!

Two under two, for just a bit

Big brother H I got to meet when he was a mere 12 hours old, but this time I had to wait a few days to meet new sister L – my vacation schedule got in the way :(

But doing it after these guys got home from the hospital was even better – light is prettier at home, and we got so many sweet pictures.  And I’m happy to welcome them to the elite club I like to call “two under two”.  They join some other fabulous families – and even though big H is turning 2 in just a couple of weeks, I think it’s exciting to mention that they’re part of this cool crew.

Both sets of grandparents in the same place at the same time? Must be documented.

Love love love you all.  Truly my extended family, and I was honored to document the beginning of your family-of-fourness.

Welcome, darling, darling girl.  We love you, and my girls can’t wait to make mischief with you and your big wonderful brother.  And how, oh how, did I walk out of the house without a new baby snuggle?  That’s the best part of my friends having babies – I usually remember to put down the camera and get some baby time – but I think the heat of the day and the excitement of meeting this sweet lady got the better of me and I stayed in standard work mode and totally forgot to get my snuggle.  We must see you another time very soon! xo

Beautiful photos Sash! Congratulations!

Sasha Chanoff - July 16, 2010 - 1:19 pm

Watching Jess photograph our family was like witnessing a master artist at work. Imagine watching Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel or da Vinci creating the Mona Lisa. That’s what if feels like to be in the presence of Jess at work — someone who is so skilled and precise and talented that it is awe inspiring.

Grant Dupoux - July 16, 2010 - 3:12 pm
