Dedham, MA Twins Photographer: Tub time is the best time

I was on my way home from a morning photoshoot on Saturday and I texted my sister, to ask her if she wanted me to get her anything from the Home Depot near her house. (They have the BEST plants, btw…) She said no, but she was making a sandwich and did I want one… yes, obviously, and she said I should let myself in when I got to her house because she’d be giving the babies a bath when I got there. I said, “Oh, dude WAIT! I have my camera in the car. If you wait I’ll document the bath.”

So she waited.

And I’m glad.

Because I love nothing more than tub pictures. (Hence the Messy-Face-Tub-Time minishoots I just introduced.)

But that’s neither here nor there. For now… just take a look at the awesomeness of this 18 month old niece/nephew/4 year old big sister team.

Do I need to say it again? I’ve said it before, but wet, happy children are REALLY fun to photograph.

Ten photoshoots in ten years

This is #20 in my series of Family Retrospective Videos – for more information about this project or to sign up to be added to the list of families who wants one, click this link and scroll down the page through the previous posts back to the first or second one (where I describe it in more detail).

I met these guys in 2005 when Alexa and Wilson were just four weeks old. So many photoshoots since then, I just adore going back and seeing them again and again.

And without further ado, here’s a 6 minute video of Alexa, Wilson and Lila’s family with photos from ten photoshoots over the last ten years:

(Hint: Start playing the video, and then click on the little gear thing that takes you to “Settings” in the bottom right corner of the video. Choose 720p to make the slideshow play in high-definition. You can also choose “Full Screen” down there in that corner of the video too.)

Twinsfest, the three month old edition

You know how you get to be part of these online parenting forums and the people there become your friends online and you wonder what it would be like to meet them? Well, when you’re parenting twins (perhaps even more so than singletons?), my sister tells me that the group of people in her “November 2015 twins” Facebook group are just such an incredible resource for her. I remember when I had my first baby how important my online group like this was to me — they were the ones I’d ask just about every age-related question and get so many helpful, relevant answers.

Well when my sister told me she was going to meet a bunch of the other parents and their twins from her online group the other day and would I like to come carry a bucket carseat and hold a baby, how could I refuse? A room full of babies? What makes me happier?

And then (seriously, I am not kidding – I didn’t think of it until) that morning, as I was getting in the car I realized I should bring my camera. Yes! Document this! Of course! Why didn’t I think of this before?

So here are a handful of photos I took on Saturday when these three gorgeous sets of twins and their mamas and helpers met up for appetizers, wine, and a delicious lunch.

Amazing dimples and grins for mamas abounded:

6956

We had six sets of arms and six babies, but sometimes mamas and helpers had to get stuff done, man. (You know, make lunch? Take photos?) That’s the way it is with twins. Sometimes you just need to let them sleep where they land ;). I love this of D next to the wine glass and the half empty bottle!

At one point the boys even had entertainment from this fantastic great-grandma:

7031

Look at this grin!

6975

Oh those twinkling eyes:

7010

Sometimes you’re not totally in the mood to pose for a photo with a crew of your besties, you know? These guys have a lot to learn before they join Taylor Swift’s group of friends and tweet about their #squadgoals while they walk the red carpet together for photos…

7005

Most of the time there were arms enough to cuddle all – and everybody loved it.

6941

6990

It sure was a room full of adorable.

6982

My niece and nephew were totally cool with the bouncy seats while I shot a handful of photos and their mom noshed some dip. Jack would like some of his mom’s dip, though…

6967

Thanks for inviting me to your party, guys! Can’t wait to watch these guys grow up together. More photos next time, I hope!

How many babies are in there?

How many babies, Jo? How many?

I love her left hand here – seems like she’s expressing some additional thoughts about the upcoming changes in her life (even if only subconsciously?). It’s gonna be pretty fabulous, kiddo.

Big sister took a minute to tell the babies a little secret here:

And look out, kid, or someone might tickle you…

The boys at six month old

We did these photos back in the end of June! It’s the beginning of October! How did I get so behind?? So sorry – and this is crazy because these two boys have the best bellies, the cutest grins – look at these little six month old cutie pies! How could anybody leave them to be unblogged all summer?

Amazing photos! I wish we had gotten some of these same angles (especially of their feet!) when we did a three-month old photo shoot last year. Maybe we can get some good 1.5 year old photos? (not sure they’ll sit still haha)

The twins at their dol

1176c

I have too many photos for you again, I’m sorry to say! I got to attend a truly gorgeous dol jahbi a week or so ago for two fantastic little ladies, and I’m having such a hard time editing the photos down into a nice small gallery to show you. So I guess I’ll just show you TONS. A dol jahbi is a Korean first birthday celebration, and this was only the second one I’ve ever photographed! They did it at Shelburne Farm in Stow, so the cake was a gorgeous pile of cider donuts, and the guests got to pick apples in addition to all the party fun.

I’m going to let the photos of the amazing decor and great times speak for themselves from here on out. So much fun to be had!

Belated newborn photos for these gorgeous twins

This isn’t usually my style – taking nearly six months to blog a session?? My apologies. It fell off both my and this mama’s radar, and when she emailed me a few weeks ago to tell me it was cool to blog the session it seemed crazy that it had been so many months since we took the photos. And then I needed a few weeks to sneak ’em into the blogging queue. So I apologies for the very late photos!

But better late than never, right? We took these photos back in January, and now I thought it was extra important to get these blogged because I get to go back to their house to do six month photos in just two weeks (YAY!!). It’s always fun to look back and remember how teenie they were when we first met them.

And without further ado… let me introduce – albeit five months after they were REALLY introduced… babies L and M.

The twins in six photoshoots over seven years

This is #10 in my series of Family Retrospective Videos – for more information about this project or to sign up to be added to the list of families who wants one, click this link and scroll down the page through the previous posts back to the first or second one (where I describe it in more detail).

I met these girls back when they were just 8 weeks old, and then I got to come back and see them when they were nine months old, and then again four more times in the last few years. I’ve adored seeing them grow – what an absolute treat.

And without further ado, here’s a 3 1/2 minute video of Beatrix and Stella’s family with photos from six photoshoots over the last seven years:

(Hint: Start playing the video, and then click on the little gear thing that takes you to “Settings” in the bottom right corner of the video. Choose 720p to make the slideshow play in high-definition. You can also choose “Full Screen” down there in that corner of the video too.)

Two strong, fun, incredible girls

Look at these sweet girls! They’re five months old now, and they’re doing so well. They were born teenie tiny preemies, and they’ve spent these last five months being fabulous, getting stronger and grinning.

It’s always my little challenge to myself when I photograph twins to see if I can learn which twin is which during the hour I spend with a family, and then really get those names/faces into my head so that a couple of weeks later when I’m deep into editing their photos, those names look like those faces. OK, be honest… you have to tell me, did I remember right?

On the left we have Ms. J and on the right it’s V… how’d I do?

And then they’ve switched places in this one, V on the left and J on the right…

You got me on this one ;)

Ms. J…

Ms. V…

Twins in their tutus

You know, the thing is, if you’re 15 months old, and you have a tutu, there’s really no reason not to wear it. These ladies were on the same page about it. And I did what I always do with one year old twins – I took too many pictures and adore all of them way too much. The expressions on these girls’ faces were just fantastic, moment to moment.

Right?

Thank you for having me visit three times this year! I love Baby’s First Year packages, because I really get to know these little ones as they grow. It sure doesn’t feel like it’s been a year, that’s for sure. Happy Birthday (a little late) girlies!

The twins turn one

Ruh-roh. Sorry. I hate it when this happens.

I overshot these two gorgeous girls a few weeks ago, just a couple of days shy of their first birthday. I kid (a little), because I guess no parent thinks there’s any such thing as too many photos of their children, but I do think it makes it really hard on the parents when there are too many photos to consider. I tried, I swear I tried, but I couldn’t cut the gallery down below 93 final images. Crazy! I usually deliver families 50-75 finished (what I’d consider “frame-worthy”) images at the end of a shoot, and that can even be overwhelming, I know.  And then when a family asks me to make them a blog post, I like to pick my favorite ten or so pictures for the blog and Facebook.  But now, here I was looking at these photos and I had the same problem I know parents have – I couldn’t cut my own list of favorites down.

So here goes, my favorite 18 photos from the first year photoshoot with these two incredible little ladies…

P.S. I know exactly what happened, by the way, in case anyone is curious. I was allowed to keep shooting! These guys got fussy towards the end of the shoot and needed a snack, so they got in their high chairs (adorable – so many chances for pictures) and then finished up, after that, with standing by a big beautiful window smooshing Cheerios into their mouths. Of course I had to keep taking pictures – those wrists? Those fat ankles? I mean, come on. You can’t blame me…

Three boys enjoying some leaves

Twin lovelies

Yikes, correction! When I first posted these pics I mentioned that these two had been in the NICU in the early days of their life and I was completely wrong. (No excuses allowed! But I realized I had just spoken to another family that same week about their twins being in the NICU and I misremembered the conversation.) I’d mentioned that these two sweet little ladies spent time in the NICU, but their mama just (very kindly) corrected me! So correction: these two spent no time in the NICU – I don’t want to confuse anyone.

These lovely twin ladies were three months old in the middle of June when we took these photos, and they couldn’t be more perfect. I am so in love with all their expressions – especially the ones they give each other :)

Three under two years old – and so relaxed!

I haven’t seen big brother B since he was three months old, and now he’s 21 months old and a pair of nearly 3 month old brothers have joined his family.  I loved spending some time with these gorgeous boys and their mama.  The ones that show how little all three of them are are my favorites.  All those chubby legs… The mama tickling B one, while the twins peek over at me.  All those legs in a row with mama playing.  And the not-posed one of mama holding the twins – I love what a sweet quiet moment that is.  Oh, and aunt Amy coming in for the last minute tweaks on B’s shirt.  Perfecto.

Thanks for making the drive, guys!

Caitlin - March 18, 2013 - 6:43 am

Jess – these are fantastic! I love the one of the 6 chubby legs in diapers. I think I’m going to hang it over the changing table. Thanks for a great shoot!

Jess- amazing as always! I love all these photos. It was so fun to have you here again.

Nana - March 18, 2013 - 8:55 pm

So many wonderful pictures – such beautiful little boys!!!

Mama, Mimi and the twins

You guys know me, I always post too many favorites when I take pictures of twins. I just love them – and these two girls were just too much fun.  They were both born tiny, back in mid-November, but came home from the hospital just around the new year.  Now they’re three months old and getting bigger every day.  And they have two times the cute grins, two times the cuddles with mama and Mimi (namesake!); it’s just the best. And my very favorite? The one where the eyelines (the invisible lines that are created by the direction the people in the picture are looking) are crossing – Mimi looking across and Mama looking across, and the babies meeting the eyes of the person who’s not holding them.  I mean, come ON – how fantastic is that? Oh, and then we have the grins – don’t even get me started. The one on one shots are wonderfully sweet too – Mimi holding her namesake and Mama loving on little E.  I adored meeting you girls, thank you so much for inviting me.
