How many babies, Jo? How many?
I love her left hand here – seems like she’s expressing some additional thoughts about the upcoming changes in her life (even if only subconsciously?). It’s gonna be pretty fabulous, kiddo.
Big sister took a minute to tell the babies a little secret here:
And look out, kid, or someone might tickle you…
And we know you know how to tickle right back:
Love this crew of five more than I can explain.
This is always one of my favorite photoshoots of the year. I know I’m not supposed to have favorites, but I’ve been seeing sweet J since he was 15 months old – just months after his heart transplant, and we’ve done one shoot a year since then, so this was his eighth shoot. And what an eight year old! He’s got a ton of energy, still loves the swings, cracks his parents up with his antics, and is doing really well with school. He’s mastered the stairs in his new house, and is just an all-around amazing kid. I always leave with a huge smile on my face after spending time with these guys.
Wonderful to see you and sweet old Rocky as always!
Just powering through editing my last eight or ten shoots of the summer, sorry for the delay! As I’m sure all you parents know, those last few weeks of summer are ridiculous in terms of childcare. But my ladies are back in school, and I’m back on track.
Here are some gorgeous boys of summer to make you smile.
I’ve been taking pictures of these two fine young swordsmen since they were babes in arms (wee newborns, both of them!) and I just adore getting a chance to see how they’re growing and getting more amazing every time.
It was – all swords – all the time – for these guys this visit.
I truly love swords. Really couldn’t be cuter.
See ya, guys! Keep on dueling – because that rocked.
I loved getting to see these guys again a couple of weeks ago – big 3 1/2 year old R loves his pup so much. You guys tell me – is the lead up to the kissing Dixie picture better, or the ACTUALLY kissing Dixie picture? I think I might like them together on a wall, because I love them both and the story they tell together. But I could be swayed…
I spend a lot of time with families that I know really well – and I adore that. I’m so lucky to be invited back to families’ homes year after year, and to watch their kiddos get bigger and taller every year. So it’s actually a rare fun treat for me to arrive at a new family’s home and get to meet entirely new kids and parents. And sometimes we get a bonus granddad who’s willing to run around chasing kids in the backyard, too. Because what’s better than that?
What a morning we had last Sunday! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I adore September photoshoots. The weather is just insanely gorgeous this time of year.
And who better to spend the morning with than these three – big boy F is even able to stand with the help of his big brother and sister. Just perfect.
More babies that just keep growing! I’ve known these little guys since they were teenie too – they’re growing up so fast. I am so super in love with the two pictures of the boys under the funky tree with the glowy leaves – which one do you like better? The one where W is tossing dirt in the air and C is cracking up, or the one where they’re both wiggling together and they just look adorable? The wiggling one is the easy favorite, I think – and the tossing dirt one is just hilarious and makes me smile so much…
Don’t I always say I love going back years later? Well, it’s true here too. I took pictures of BOTH these guys when they were teenie tiny newborn babies, and then again when they were little guys… but now they’re 7 years old and 4 years old – I love seeing tiny glimpses of the little babies they were in the wonderful kids they’ve become.
Thanks so much for meeting me, guys.
Ooh I love when I’ve known kids since they were eensie weensie. We’re talking days old. And now we’re talking six and three. Yikes! Time flies. Love these guys.
So I had to show you these ones in color, too. See my last post for waaaayyyyy too much information about my thoughts about color, b&w, etc. :)
These guys just bought a new house this summer – congratulations! This meant they had a big beautiful yard full of leaves, perfect for throwing. The shot with the leaves flying and mom and dad both smiling at H just gives me chills. Adore it. That and the one where the long piece of grass came into the side of the frame and caught the camera’s focus, so mom and H went into the background a bit, as she tickled him like crazy? Perfect. And don’t even get me started on the ones where they’re lying in the leaves – H looking up at Dad with the best smile ever, and then when they all three agreeably lay down in the leaf pile, nice clothes and all – but smiling and just giving off this glowy, happy family vibe, all over the place? Awesome. Thanks for a fantastic shoot, guys. Congrats again on the new house :)
I know what mine is. I gave these guys a challenge: see if you can wake the neighbors (they’re one of my neighbors, so I knew I’d hear about it later), and boy did they. Truly some of the loudest hollering I’ve ever heard. Good on you, guys.
Twin (nearly) seven year old boys and their two and a half year old brother – they were ready to have fun. I love Mom’s face in the tickle picture (we turned the tables and the boys tickled their parents). That and all the pretty pond/duck pictures… can’t go wrong with all that nice reflection.
It was so fun running around with you guys!
Another incredible year for this guy. Nothing comes easy for him, but you really can’t tell when you spend time with him. He’s six now, and doing so well with his walking, swinging, playing basketball… I just can’t explain how impressive he is. He’s also super loving and having a great time with his fun parents. I adore so many of these, it’s so hard to pick a favorite. I’m a sucker for a good tickle picture, but quiet moments like the one where he’s sitting with his mom by the water laughing and looking down and mom is doing the same – the dimple there kills me. I also keep going back to the one where Dad is handing him the basketball – it seems like the beginning of something :)
Wonderful to spend time with you guys as always!
Let ’em get loud. Shoot, shoot, shoot while the tickling, hollering, guffawing happens – because later when you look at the pictures, they actually seem to have an audio track. You can almost HEAR the giggles.
Back in the mid 70s a young couple bought this house – and I wonder if they ever imagined that more 30 years later, they’d stand out front with their handsome progeny all assembled like this:
With just their grandchildren:
I bet they knew, even back then, that the back yard would be perfect for summer playtime:

It was so fun to see you guys!
