It’s Nursery School picture day time of year!

It’s that time of year! This was my 8th annual school photo day at the fabulous Ashmont Nursery School, and I loved it, as always. We shot these photos back in February, but I’m just taking the time to blog them now – aren’t these kiddos just amazingly adorable?

And before I get into the cuteness, I should link over to the page of information about having me come do this at any Nursery School in the greater Boston area – don’t hesitate to reach out if you want me to come do this at your school. I usually do them in January-March, and would love to add more schools into my calendar. It’s free to the school to have me come do it, and parents only pay if they like the photos. Here’s all the information.

It’s time for Nursery School photos again

I’m just noticing I forgot to blog the shoot I did for these guys last year. Well here I am, 6 years in, and it’s my last year shooting Ashmont Nursery School photos as a parent. I’ll be back next year to take pictures, but then I’ll just be crazy Jess who makes all the silly noises, not crazy Jess, a.k.a. Sadie’s (or Annie’s) mom. It’s been a great ride, ANS! I can’t really even begin to think how to thank Mary, Kerri and Edna for these years, so I think I’ll wait, I won’t do it now.

Instead, let’s check out a handful of photos from this year’s class of cutie patooties!

Can’t get enough? Click this link to see more nursery school photos, and scroll down down down to see if you can spot some of this year’s kiddos in past years…

It’s that time of year – Nursery School photo time!

So this is an old post – I might even back date it to January because I shot these guys on a cold day back then… but I’m finally taking the time to blog it because, come on – these expressions can’t be beat.

It’s the best when you can choose what you wear for school photo day.  Ski goggles? Why not?

Little brothers welcome :)

There’s something so sweet about the angle of this one – I love it.

DIMPLES! (she has great ones, under those poking fingers)

Loads of fun, as always! More info about shooting Nursery School photos (yes, email me, I’m happy to do this at your child’s school next January or February) is available in past posts… from 2011 and 2010.

Nursery school photos, third year in a row

It’s that time of the year again – Jan/Feb at Boston Baby Photos means studio-style nursery school photos at my daughter’s preschool, and it was incredible and hilarious once again this year.  Last year I put a post up explaining all the details in case any other schools were interested in having me do this sort of photography at their school, so if you’re interested and want to forward this along to friends, they can learn all the details from last year’s post here.

This time I’ll let the pictures do the talking…

Thanks again for a great day, guys!

Nursery School Photography? Sure.

When my older daughter started nursery school last year, I heard from her school that they were interested in trying something different for the school photos.  They asked me to go for it, and last year I did, and it was fantastic. Well, last year I was 8 1/2 months pregnant when I was shooting school photo day, so fantastic wasn’t the word I would have used back then, but the photos were adorable, and the achy back was short-lived ;)

This year, in Annie’s 2nd year in her nursery school, I did it again, and this year was even better (no belly to contend with on my end!).  The kids were hilarious and adorable, and I can’t wait to do it again next year.  I loved it so much I wanted to offer my services to other nursery schools, if they’re interested in trying something different this year.  Here are a few cuties from this year (thanks to their moms and dads for letting me share their photos here!).

I encourage parents to bring siblings in for photos, too. ‘Cause nothing beats a siblings shot:

I try to get all the kids to make crazy faces, too, so I can make a “crazy face” collage for the school.  Well, this one’s not so much crazy as jazz-hands-y ;)

Peek-a-boo!

Even baby sisters sometimes show up, and show off a smirk:

What are you gonna do?

The style, as you can kind of tell, is just a little different from standard school photos.  Of course I get the standard sitting there, smiling shot for grandma’s wall, don’t worry.  I just get a few others, too.  Here are my two, doing what they do all over my house (and for once I’m not yelling – let GO of your SISTER!)

Each parent gets an individual link to their child’s photos for online ordering for 2 weeks after the shoot.  Expressions are natural, and I think, pretty incredible.  But that’s thanks to the gorgeous kids, not me.

I bring in lights and a white backdrop, just so we get super simple backgrounds and really focus on the kids’ expressions.  It’s also nice because we don’t have to worry about rescheduling for weather.  I don’t charge the school at all – the parents just order their prints on a one-off basis from me a few weeks after the shoot.  Nursery school print prices are half the price of my standard prints.  For more information about having me take pictures at  your nursery school, send me an email to jess (at) bostonbabyphotos.com and I can send you some more information.

Hello,
This post is giving us the idea of a nursery school.Pre-school is highly required for a child. It helps a lot to make a better career.THank you so much for this post.

Jess, what did you do today?

I had an incredible day today as my daughter’s nursery school’s photographer – the kids were fantastic.  And of course my favorite pictures are the crazy-faced ones.  Had to do a little collage because they made me smile so much…
What did you do today? by you.
Thanks for a great day, guys!  All the photos will be ready by the end of next week.

Mother’s Day with three moms

The second shoot I had on Mother’s Day had a bonus – three moms all in one session. I met B (the mom on the left in this photo) at one of my Pottery Barn Kids photoshoots back in the fall of 2005 when she (and I) were both about to pop with new babies. (Her “new baby” from back then is the little blondie on the right, now 2 1/2.) She invited her sister and mother for Mother’s Day photos this year, and to commemorate the mom focus of the day… all the blog photos from this session are of moms – from both generations.

So we start with the three beautiful moms…

And Grandma with her three cuties.

I love this one next to the other grandma one — big hugs.

And a not-so-crazy swinging picture with mom, too :)

And here are the boys from their first in-home photoshoot last fall. Look at those grins!

And here’s one last one from J’s first photoshoot with me back in the fall of ’05 at Pottery Barn Kids. Don’t you love those eyebrows?

Thanks for the fun Mother’s Day photos, guys – all the photos will be ready by the end of the week!

Another perfect newbie

So here’s the last post from this spring’s Jimmy Fund Studio Day – ten wonderful families brought their cuties in for studio photos (which I only do for charity a couple of times a year) and this is the last one for this spring. It’s tiny J – absolutely adorable tootsies, first… can’t lose with toes…

J had a grin to end all grins.

So I have to admit one of the things I love about teenie tiny newborns is their fantastic expressions – this one says to me “You know, you guys all look pretty funny dancing, but if I must… Raise the roof!”

0097, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

And oh – wow – does anyone else just love this one the way I do? It’s just so fun! Craning his little neck… adorable.

0092, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

So thanks again to all my Jimmy Fund Studio Day families. We raised over $800 for the Jimmy Fund, and got lots of great photos doing it!

9 week old cutie

So any parent knows those first weeks after the baby’s born are exhausting and amazing, all at once. My last two Jimmy Fund Studio Day sessions were of these fantasticly adorable newborns, and here’s #1 of 2. Do you believe this coy half-smile?

09978, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

This is one of my favorites – I love those pursed lips and the pensive look on her face. She’s got us figured out!

Teenie fingers… and her expression, so fascinated with my big light…

09988, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

It is exhausting being a star.

And peeking up at me, with mom helping on the head-holding front…

Twinkling eyes, every time

Here’s another little one I’ve known since she was just a wee girlie. Her mom and I were in the same mom’s group in Somerville when our girls were first born, so it’s really fun for me to see how she grows every time I take her picture. Here she is at her first photoshoot with me, at my Sept ’06 Jimmy Fund Studio Day…

I just love how fair her skin is, and how fantastic her blue eyes look with this adorable little blue smock dress:

And then that Halloween, I got to capture G dressed up as a leopard. Not many cuter leopards out there.

And then this Halloween (’07), I got to experience another of G’s costumes… this time a ladybug, of course.

And now last week, at the 1:30pm appointment of my Jimmy Fund Studio Day, 2 1/2 year old G arrived, and yay – she was a pleasure. Isn’t that grin killer?

9955, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

Do you believe her mom said she refuses to pose for pictures at home? Isn’t it always the way? Put her in the lights in the studio, though, and she was hilarious!

9926c, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

And I love all her different expressions. Ahhhhhh! :)

9937, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

And this one needed to be color – those eyes with that pink dress… just so lovely.

Look-alike sibs

I met this little cutie in the spring of 2005 at one of my photoshoots at the Pottery Barn Kids store (yes, my backdrop, lights and I were all squished in there within the cute kids furniture), and his grin was just infectious.

4957, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

And he didn’t mind time on his tummy at all :)

Then last week, at my Jimmy Fund Studio Day (1pm appointment), I met his little sister. She was a fabulously chubby pleasure too!

9852, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

Leg rolls, arm rolls… all the very best.

9859, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

I lurrrrve expressive baby eyebrows.

9855, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

And little pointed toes, the wrinkle of folded skin around the wrist… sigh…

I love dimples

my Jimmy Fund Studio Day 11:30am appointment:

This little guy has three older brothers, but mom brought him in for my Jimmy Fund Studio day all by himself. I love this shot with mom’s cool zebra shoes and her bright green shirt, not to mention the best rolls and squishy legs…

9744c, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

See what I mean about the dimples?

9699, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

Next to dimples, I also just adore arm rolls. I guess I’m in the right line of work.

9730, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

So proud of being able to hold up his own head :)

9709, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

And last but not least, I just love all the skin textures in this one.

Fun with her new brother

So I’ve known little H since she was just a few weeks old – her mom and I met in a mom’s group (our girls are almost the same age), and she came to my Jimmy Fund Studio Day last spring and gave me her gorgeous smile then:

And then she showed me her halloween costume this past October when she was just about 2 yrs old:

My Jimmy Fund Studio Day 11:00am appointment:

And now look at her. Isn’t she adorable?

9563, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

And this time she introduced me to her perfect-cheeked little brother:

They even got some cuddles in.

And baby brother got to show me his Red Sox pride. Love it!

Eyelashes and grins

This guy has the best eyelashes and most infectious smile ever. I met him six months ago at my last Jimmy Fund Benefit Studio Day, (here he is in September with his lighter summer hair), and he’s such a pleasure.

And reclining in the chair…

Jimmy Fund Studio Day, my 10:30am appointment:
And here’s R – I love his fingers in this shot, all intertwined…

9512, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

See what I mean about the eyelashes?

9510, originally uploaded by Boston Baby Photos.

And I had to include this one – I feel like six months ago he was still such a little guy, and here he looks like he’s four going on eleven…

A boy and his Wii

I met T and his big sister M last summer, and then T has come to my last two Jimmy Fund Studio Days. Here’s a shot from last summer when they took a bit of time to read in the back yard. I love the way the light reflects on the book up into their faces in this one.

Then last fall T enjoyed a little fun with my trusty Thomas train…

Jimmy Fund Studio Day, my 10:00am appointment:
And then here’s T from last week, holding his beloved Wii. He takes it everywhere. I love capturing little things like that in photos. I think he’ll probably stop carrying it around eventually :), and then later these’ll be fun photos to have.
