I was thrilled to meet this gorgeous three month old baby boy for his newborn photoshoot last weekend. Sometimes people say to me “I missed my window for newborn photos!” when they call me and their baby is two, three, four… five months old. I always tell them not to worry, that doing photos any time in the first year of their baby’s life will be fantastic. Of course I want to get started early so we can tell the story of your baby’s first year fully (I have a package of a few photoshoots over the course of a baby’s first year that’s really fun to do), but any time you want to do photos is a great time to do it.
I mean, look at this cutie patootie – 3 1/2 months old and absolute perfection. I mean, the rolls on the back of his neck? Those tootsie toes? Just divine.
Even through rain, snow, sleet or hail, your newborn photoshoot will happen
This may sound weird, but I love making my way to see families after big snowstorms. They’re snuggled in their cozy house with their new baby, and I navigate the ridiculous Boston roads to make my way there – happily leaving my own wild animals at home… and I arrive at their house, to the warmth, the love, cuddles… I just truly love my job. I adored tromping through the wet slush on the way to this newborn photoshoot, knowing I’d arrive somewhere just bursting with love.
Because guys, even his knuckles have dimples! Squeeeeeeal.
And even better, mama said she’s considering canvases! Mmmm wall consulting, my new jam. Thanks again for having me, I loved meeting you guys and your sweet new boy.
This sweet love has the most delicious cheeks ever – I just adore them. As I was working on these last night I started using my new BBP-only Instagram to give sneak peeks, bit by bit. It was really fun. If you’re an instagram person, follow @bostonbabyphotos to see what I’m up to, more real-time than ever before. I’ve also become something of an insane #tbt person, so if you follow, your feed might have some fun throwbacks on Thursdays. :)
We started with this one, which I just love for so many reasons. The back of Miss S’s hair, her adorable little neck roll, and then of course there are her parents’ expressions.
Then we moved along to this peek – there is nothing in the world like baby fingers:
And of course you guys know I love a newborn smile. When paired with a mama smile? Even better.
And then we had to introduce those eyes… and of course her perfect cheeks. Staring adoringly at daddy:
The expression here just gets me, and the belly roll… delicious.
And would you believe this little lady is only eight weeks old? Look how she holds her head up!
And then of course there comes the moment when exhaustion sets in, and you have to rest on daddy’s shoulder:
Aaaaaand then it was a wrap. Zzzzzzz goodnight love bug!
I loved getting to see these girls three times this year! What a treat to get involved with a Baby’s First Year package with these two adorably fun sisters. I can’t believe the year flew by so quickly.
Look who’s one!
Wonderful to see you guys!
I am going to tease you with these first few photos because you’re not really going to believe how adorable this little girl is when I show you her face. So I’m starting with her 13 month old arms. Because wrist rolls? Knuckle dimples? People, we got it all here.
GA! Told you!!
I just adore this exchange of expressions with Mama:
And now, because you haven’t gotten enough adorableness – it’s tub time.
And some snuggles with Grandma, of course.
Just adored every minute of this shoot, guys. Thanks so much for having me.
Look at this handsome devil. Isn’t he perfect? I got to come back for his six month photoshoot because these guys are doing my Baby’s First Year package.
Oh, and big news, did you guys hear I’ve announced an Annual Plan, for people whose babies are over a year old? More info is here.
I got to spend some time with this guy and his big brother a couple of weekends ago…
And even though the smooches between the boys were brief…
And the desire to be near each other short-lived…
How could he not idolize this?
Big brother M did also deliver some obligatory hand licks…
And little brother A got time to giggle with Dad,
And some snacks (knuckle dimples and all)…
We had to get our Michigan appreciation photo in – big brother M helped us out by reading all the letters to us:
And tootsies, gorgeous, divine tootsies, of course.
We even had some kiddo table dancing amazingness…
So wonderful to see you guys, thanks so much for having me!
We did these photos back in the end of June! It’s the beginning of October! How did I get so behind?? So sorry – and this is crazy because these two boys have the best bellies, the cutest grins – look at these little six month old cutie pies! How could anybody leave them to be unblogged all summer?
It’s been six months since I last saw this little dude, and he’s been keeping busy learning to smile and be amazing. Look at that GRIN!
Even a brief moment of crisis about his puffs couldn’t get this guy down:
Elmo, you’re just too much!
It was such a treat to see you again, sweet G! Happy six months!
So if you’re reading this blog from somewhere other than Boston, you may not be feeling the way we’re feeling about the last few months, but suffice it to say, we Bostonians are DONE with winter. Time to melt, snow. Time to get back to real life, where we go outside and say hi to each other. Where the kids can run around outside on the grass. Show us the grass! We miss the grass.
Although I do recognize that this no-one-running-around-outside thing happens every year over here in BBP-land – and I have to admit I adore it. It’s crazy nutso busy from September 1st through December, and then the holidays happen, and there’s this stillness in the air. It’s quiet in my little office. I turn on the space heater under my desk, I wrap up in scarves and sweaters and I get stuff DONE. In the fall I’m taking photos for 5-6 families a week, and when I dedicate a day to editing each family’s photos, you can see how there’s not much time to do other things related to the business during the fall. Now in January-March, I’m taking pictures for one or two families a week – and it’s divine! I get to just sit here, cozy in my little office, thinking about how to improve and change this year.
Oh, so who calls me for photos in Boston in January-March, you ask? It’s mostly people expecting a baby. :) You guys know I love that. So I get to spend these few months taking indoor warm cozy pictures of mamas waiting for babies to be born and then taking pictures of those babies after they’re born. And what’s better than bellies and teenie babies?
So without further ado, I thought I’d show you some fun ones I got to do in February with Kristen and Dan. First, about a month ago we did ridiculously fun maternity photos in their gorgeous home with amazing windows and light…
Isn’t this the most stylish mirror ever? This was in Kristen’s super cool dressing room with windows all around…
And then a week or so later, little T joined their family. Here she is at just ten days old, gracing us with a little grin:
It was wonderful getting to know you guys! Thank you so much for having me out for photos. Nothing beats this, truly.
Oh we had fun! I loved coming back to see this sweet girl for her 6 month pictures – feels like yesterday we did her newborn pictures (she’s doing my baby’s first year package – yay).
She loves looking at herself in the mirror:
Making funny faces with mama:
And just all around being pretty stinkin’ cute:
Sophie the giraffe made an appearance, of course…
Oh, and her daddy said her little noises sounded like a goat when she was really little – and the nickname stuck. Here she nibbling on her very own goat :)
Look at that balance!
So fun to see you guys!
Around the holidays last year one of my sister’s best high school friends called me and said that she wanted to give a group photoshoot to three of her friends from high school who’d all had babies in the last few years. I got excited right then – couldn’t wait to make this one happen; and this past Sunday it did.
Nothing beats four little mini-Miltonites playing in the water.
This one reminds me of their mamas in the dining hall not too long ago.
So in age order, we had… Ms. J
And Mr. M:
So much fun! Love love love.
These guys got a gift certificate for a photoshoot from their baby’s fabulous godparents, and I was so excited to come document this little 8 month old guy and his kitty at home last weekend. What a perfect little dude.
Nothing beats a little applesauce.
And your favorite and mine… Sophie made an appearance!
Wonderful to meet you guys!
I am so honored to have been able to document this little guy at six months old. His parents got a photoshoot gift certificate from dad’s sister when mama was still pregnant, and they decided to wait and do the shoot at six months. What a fun age!
This little guy just loved his toes:
And his rice cereal :)
And look at those twinkling eyes and that smile!
He just loves his daddy…
And mama kisses are perfect, always.
Even Chase, their first baby, did a little posing.
Just love Chase in the back of this one.
And a headshot for Mr. C in case he ever needs to do any modeling…
There’s something so quiet and sweet about this profile one.
Aunt Meg, giver of photoshoots and cuddles :)
And when tiredness (or was it an incoming tooth?) overtook him, a quiet moment with mama helped.
I just adored seeing you guys and meeting J – he’s just amazing! xo
Ruh-roh. Sorry. I hate it when this happens.
I overshot these two gorgeous girls a few weeks ago, just a couple of days shy of their first birthday. I kid (a little), because I guess no parent thinks there’s any such thing as too many photos of their children, but I do think it makes it really hard on the parents when there are too many photos to consider. I tried, I swear I tried, but I couldn’t cut the gallery down below 93 final images. Crazy! I usually deliver families 50-75 finished (what I’d consider “frame-worthy”) images at the end of a shoot, and that can even be overwhelming, I know. And then when a family asks me to make them a blog post, I like to pick my favorite ten or so pictures for the blog and Facebook. But now, here I was looking at these photos and I had the same problem I know parents have – I couldn’t cut my own list of favorites down.
So here goes, my favorite 18 photos from the first year photoshoot with these two incredible little ladies…
P.S. I know exactly what happened, by the way, in case anyone is curious. I was allowed to keep shooting! These guys got fussy towards the end of the shoot and needed a snack, so they got in their high chairs (adorable – so many chances for pictures) and then finished up, after that, with standing by a big beautiful window smooshing Cheerios into their mouths. Of course I had to keep taking pictures – those wrists? Those fat ankles? I mean, come on. You can’t blame me…
Yikes, correction! When I first posted these pics I mentioned that these two had been in the NICU in the early days of their life and I was completely wrong. (No excuses allowed! But I realized I had just spoken to another family that same week about their twins being in the NICU and I misremembered the conversation.) I’d mentioned that these two sweet little ladies spent time in the NICU, but their mama just (very kindly) corrected me! So correction: these two spent no time in the NICU – I don’t want to confuse anyone.
These lovely twin ladies were three months old in the middle of June when we took these photos, and they couldn’t be more perfect. I am so in love with all their expressions – especially the ones they give each other :)
