Jamaica Plain MA Kids & Dog Photographer – just add yoga ball

I’ve been taking photos of this fantastic boy since he was tiny – I think maybe these pictures we took when he was sixteen months old were the first time?

He and his pup Dixie are peas in a pod, absolutely.

These photos are from our session last fall and R’s mama has been perhaps the most patient person in the world waiting for the blog post. The crazy holiday season often means I am focused on getting everyone’s galleries posted and not taking the time to blog as much. But I’m trying to get better about blogging more regularly in 2017 – so I’ll post more soon, I promise!

Look at the fun these guys have together. They give me such joy every time.

And really, what’s better than an October day when the sun is shining and you can take the yoga ball outside and have your mom clock you on the head with it? ;) hehe just kidding. Good times were had by all. No tears were shed. Honest.

As always, I love seeing you guys. Thanks for having me back!

Fantastic as usual! Jess is very creative!

A black cat and a brown dog. Perfection.

These guys booked a minishoot this spring but then had some schedule conflicts (I actually can’t even remember what happened – I feel like maybe there was a kiddo illness in there, or some yucky weather event… it’s all a blur this time of year) but as we tried and tried to reschedule it became clear that it’d make lots of sense to upgrade to an in home shoot instead.

So I was thrilled to join them at their home this past weekend for the final pictures at their Massachusetts home — they’re moving momentarily to Wisconsin! The movers were coming just two days after we did this shoot (what a mellow mama to let us do pictures in the house mere days before they packed everything! I’d be so stressed out…) and it was so much fun to go with the kids to their rooms to play a bit and document their favorite places and spaces and things.

I am always in love with a good, juicy dog licking picture:

And not to be outdone – a perfect kitty smooch picture:

Mustaches made of sister hair, of course:

Shooting hoops in the bedroom…

J is an amazing gymnast; she showed me so many tricks:

Boy’s best friend begging to join the outdoor fun:

And of course, last but not least, the requisite cheesehead shots :)

Just wonderful to see you guys! Have a fantastic move, best of luck with everything :)

A girl and her dog

So I normally don’t go captioning my client’s photos too much – I know my brand of humor might not be everybody’s cup of tea.  I think I’m utterly hilarious, of course, but I recognize that the people who have me take their baby and family photos might have had me come do that to use my skills as a photographer, and less as that of a standup comic ;)

But here I am, editing my gorgeous niece J’s 3 month old photos from last weekend, and I can’t help myself. I know my sister and her husband won’t mind if I go to town on some captions for these… and hey, maybe we can even get a little caption contest going over on Facebook, too.

I’ll post them on Facebook too so you all can try captioning them there. I know you want to.

“Mmm. Boob.”

“Aaaak! I left my phone at the beach!”

___________________________________________________________________________________

“Check me out.

I have the same eyes as the whale on my shirt.

No joke.

Look again.

Right?”

___________________________________________________________________________________

“Goo.

Yup, I knew you wanted me to do that because I look all “classic baby” here.

I do what I can for you people.”

___________________________________________________________________________________

“These ‘put-me-with-the-bunny-to-show-how-fast-I’m-growing’ pix are starting to get old.

They bore me.

You?”

___________________________________________________________________________________

I got nothin. Seriously nothin. This picture kills me.

___________________________________________________________________________________

“Daddy, seriously, if we do this every day I’ll be able to fly like Superman?

Rock on.”

___________________________________________________________________________________

“This is my superspy face. I’m hiding, can’t you tell?”

___________________________________________________________________________________

“Um… ok.

Sure, ya, you can do that.

I had something on my finger anyway.”

___________________________________________________________________________________

Again, I have nothing. But look at the thighs. The knuckle dimples. The toes. The BELLY.  Words fail me.

___________________________________________________________________________________

I am realizing this whole captioning plan is ambitious. I’m not really all that clever.  But doncha like how Jakers (the pup) is standing guard here?___________________________________________________________________________________

Documenting the very first ALMOST roll.  She rolled mere days later. Toldja she would :)

4 weeks of delicious cuteness

Ooh, I was so lucky to get to spend some time with this little guy on Monday.  He’s just four weeks old, and he’d just had a long drive back from the Cape, but he was an absolute trooper!  He just had the best expressions.  Can’t decide which of these is my favorite.  I love the way he’s looking at his dad when he’s gripping his finger with his whole hand – just such a smile in his eyes.  Also loving the mama and grandma shots we got – again, it’s that look in his eye, so adoring. And of course I had to get a dachshund licking pic – although this time the lick is for mom :)

Wonderful to meet you guys!

Summer fun with the boys

Six months, two years old and six years old – three fabulous boys.  The toes only tell some of the story… they look so relaxed here… (adorable nonetheless)

I love the energy from the bigger boys in this one and then also little D’s face… plotting an escape?

But really this was supposed to be all about little D – his six month photos. Isn’t he perfect?

Getting a lick:

Riding in the Gator:

Splashing together:

So fun to play with you guys!

What, you like my hat? This old thing?

You guys know I’m not really a “hat” baby photographer.  But when there’s one just LYING around… and when a 9 month old sweetie feels like she’s ready for her closeup in it… who am I to say no?

Incredible cuteness.  I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves :)

Except this one, where I have to point out that Harry’s tongue is completely under E’s chin – full extension.  Hard to tell here on the blog, but it’s perfect.

Oh, and I loved shooting in Miss E’s new house – the top floor was like a big empty studio for us, so sunny… and I can imagine her peering out these windows for years to come looking at her neighbor kids playing, saying, “Can I go outside?”

And last but not least, chewing on those toes.

Kristen Krikorian - July 9, 2012 - 1:42 pm

Ellie is gorgeous as ever! Mommy and baby and Gwammy (and puppy) all look so happy! These pictures really capture her smile and sweet cheeks (and those eyelashes!). Love Love Love! xoxox

Erin - July 9, 2012 - 9:06 pm

I have never seen a happier baby! Beautiful pictures- every one!

Four months old and full of grins

Earlier this week I got to meet a lovely little lady.  She had some shy moments… (I just adore this one)

But she was full of grins most of the time:

Her big “brother” Howie adores her already:

The fuzzy hair is the best.

Mirror time with mama:

And toe tickles with Daddy:

Such a treat to meet your girlie! Thanks so much.  See you in a few months for her 2nd photoshoot :)

A&C - March 29, 2012 - 6:27 pm

Beautiful, Jess, thank you! You really captured our little fuzzy-headed girl. Looking forward to round two!

Another lick for a big beautiful girl

Before I show you this sweet girl getting licked by her pup (aka big brother), I have to show you my favorite one from this six month old photoshoot:

And now I won’t make you wait for the licking one.

Beauty.

Getting bigger every time, on her chaise…

Mama’s two babies:

YAAAA!

Love this tender one, and mama’s eyelashes echoing E’s pretty eyelashes here… love it…

cheeeeeeks!

Loved seeing you guys as always!

Amy St. Angelo - March 8, 2012 - 1:22 pm

I love the big lick from her big brother Harry! These pics are amazing! Jessica – you sure know how to capture those special moments! Beautiful!

Kristen Krikorian - March 8, 2012 - 4:59 pm

LOVE the pics! She is getting so big and looks so innocent and precious! Her smile is a knock out! And Harry is so lovey dovey! Great pics!

3 months old and delicious

In my line of work, sometimes it’s fun to give myself little challenges – little things that I keep an eye out for when I’m shooting.  One of those things is the elusive dog lick picture.  I love a good dog-licking-baby picture – and getting the dog’s tongue just the right amount out of his mouth while the baby’s also at that perfect moment where they’re not too annoyed by the attention…

The fun thing here is if you click this “dog licking baby” link and get to a bunch of shoots where I’ve had dogs licking babies (yes, it’ll look at first like it’s not going anywhere, because you’ll see this post again – but scroll down, that link shows all the posts I’ve ever tagged with dog lick), the next post down after this one will be of this same pup: Harry, with his beloved little sister E. Our first shoot was back when she was just three weeks old, and now she’s three months old.

We did these pictures just an hour before her baptism this weekend, and she was just a perfect angel for the photoshoot.

Even with very little sleep the night before, she giggled and played…

And showed us how big she is on her mom’s pretty chaise – much bigger than last time, already!

Reading Christmas books with mama:

Love that she’s peeking at her “1st Christmas” ornament here!

Mama and daughter in their pretty Christening dresses:

She did catch a wink before the big event…

Grandma’s pretty hands with baby E:

With her Godmother and Godfather, in her Christening gown and bonnet that her mom, uncle and grandma all wore…

Big cousin, with her fantastic hairdo and dimple:

And last of all, grandma with her three pretty girls:

Loved seeing all you guys!  Hope the big event was a huge success :)

Bellissimo sweet little Ellie! xoxo

3 weeks of dog kisses

Now it’s possible Harry the fabulous black lab was overly affectionate during my visit last Friday, but it’s also possible he showers his new sister E with this many kisses all day every day.  He is enamored, and I think it’s possible he’s spent the last month with E giving her as much love as he possibly can.  Happy 4 week birthday today, E, sorry these pictures took me all week to get to you!

I mean, come on now – aren’t the licks just perfect?  E really didn’t seem to mind too much, except maybe in this next one, as her eyes tell Daddy she’s maybe not having as much fun with the licks as she was before :)  I do love dog/baby kissing pictures.  Whenever I get a good one, I tag the post, so if you like them too, there are more here (keep scrolling down the page after you click to see the other ones).

So back to the beginning.  When I first arrived, baby E was snoozing on mama, but we had to grab a quick shot of her on this gorgeous antique chaise (is this a chaise?) with dragonflies on it.  She’s so tiny snoozing here.

But I should let you get a good look at her.  Isn’t she just perfect?

Getting some sustenance.

Relaxing on dad in her favorite hat from the delivery room.

Hanging out with mama:

Tiny toes!

With her uber-helpful awesome grandmother.

Three generations of ladies:

It was such a pleasure to meet you guys!  Thanks for having me out to meet your sweet girlie.

Amy St. Angelo - January 11, 2012 - 10:59 am

The photos are truly amazing and priceless; especially in the years to come! I can’t help but love the ones of Harry & Ellie together!!!

A swinging, sliding, happy boy

I say this every year, I know, but these guys make me so happy every time I have a shoot with them.  They just ooze love out of every pore – their (now 5! year old – can’t believe it, kindergartener) sweet boy is just an absolute inspiration.  As Kim (his mama) put it so eloquently on the contest page of my blog last year, as she described a photo from the 2010 shoot where Jack walked holding hands with his parents:

Our family has been through so much in Jack’s four years. I love this picture so much because it inspires me to believe that anything is possible, and makes me proud to be the parent of such a special child. There were times that we were told Jack may not make it through the night or to his next birthday, but we never gave up hope. This picture to me symbolizes how far we’ve come and that we have to remember that life is a journey that you take one step at a time.

Well they’ve taken lots of steps together this year, and Jack and his parents have tons to be proud of. Not the least of which is their huge, amazing love.

Daddy tickles:

Up in the air:

High-fiving mama:

Giving Rocky some kisses:

Loving Mickey Mouse Clubhouse:

And this is my favorite series of two pictures – Jack was obviously really worried about going down the slide, but his mama helped him… she knew he could do it, so she gave him support and helped him get started.

And at the bottom of the slide… a little proud smile peeked out.  So perfect.

But this guy loves NOTHING more than the swings.

Maybe partially because his parents are really fun.

But I know it’s so freeing to fly so high up there.

You guys inspire me every time I see you.  So happy for you.

Sara Burns - September 14, 2011 - 3:34 pm

I LOVE these pictures!! The picture of Jack kissing Rocky is adorable and your family photo at the end is absolutely perfect. Jack grew so much over the summer- I miss you guys!!

Bonnie Fahey - September 14, 2011 - 6:40 pm

Well, well well !!!!!
These are absolutely wonderful. There are not only beautiful b&w photos but they capture Jack and his family so poignantly and realistically no posing here. Thank you for these. Even though I see Jack and his mom every day these pictures have truly touched me and have made me see him thru another “lens.”

Kim Soper - September 14, 2011 - 7:26 pm

Another great set of photos to celebrate such an amazing little boy. Thanks so much from capturing his personality so perfectly this year. It’s going to be hard to pick a favorite.

Marie Meckley - September 14, 2011 - 8:22 pm

Great job once again Jessica! These are amazing shots of our special little family. The shots are a true depiction of a day in the life of our Jack. I have so many favorites this year!

Mary C. - September 18, 2011 - 8:39 pm

Wonderful pictures!I sure would have a hard time picking a favorite.

A TON of beautiful hair

When this little beauty’s mama emailed me about her photoshoot, she warned me that her daughter (and I’m quoting here) “has a ton, and I mean a ton, of hair ;)”

I loved it.  She’s gorgeous, and the hair is fabulous.

We started off with barrettes to tame it – that looked great too:

But at a certain point we just had to go for it :)

Those toes need a lick…

And I was JUST talking about Sophie the giraffe with someone recently – a universal fave:

Kind of her to lift her foot to leave a spot for the logo, don’t you think?

And I just love this mama girlie pic:

Wonderful to meet you guys, thanks for having me out!

One year old and delicious

I got to spend L’s first birthday with her last week – and she was perfect!  Tucker thinks she’s delicious, too.  (These guys were the winning bidders for this session at the Ashmont Nursery School auction in March – so glad we got to do our session on L’s big day!)

Isn’t she incredibly gorgeous?  Eyes to die for, just like her big brother.

Sharing secrets.

Swinging together:

See what I mean about her brother’s eyes?  Not to mention the dimples…

This grandma moment makes me happy.

So does this one.

And I think her birthday cake made L happy, too :) DeLISH.

Thanks for the fun morning, guys.  Great to see you!
