I was thrilled to meet this gorgeous three month old baby boy for his newborn photoshoot last weekend. Sometimes people say to me “I missed my window for newborn photos!” when they call me and their baby is two, three, four… five months old. I always tell them not to worry, that doing photos any time in the first year of their baby’s life will be fantastic. Of course I want to get started early so we can tell the story of your baby’s first year fully (I have a package of a few photoshoots over the course of a baby’s first year that’s really fun to do), but any time you want to do photos is a great time to do it.
I mean, look at this cutie patootie – 3 1/2 months old and absolute perfection. I mean, the rolls on the back of his neck? Those tootsie toes? Just divine.
Even through rain, snow, sleet or hail, your newborn photoshoot will happen
This may sound weird, but I love making my way to see families after big snowstorms. They’re snuggled in their cozy house with their new baby, and I navigate the ridiculous Boston roads to make my way there – happily leaving my own wild animals at home… and I arrive at their house, to the warmth, the love, cuddles… I just truly love my job. I adored tromping through the wet slush on the way to this newborn photoshoot, knowing I’d arrive somewhere just bursting with love.
Because guys, even his knuckles have dimples! Squeeeeeeal.
And even better, mama said she’s considering canvases! Mmmm wall consulting, my new jam. Thanks again for having me, I loved meeting you guys and your sweet new boy.
This sweet girl arrived at the end of 2016, but I got to meet her just last week for her newborn photos. I can’t wait to go back for her six month and one year shots – what a treat. Yay for the Baby’s First Year package :)
I have to say I think my favorite photo is this last fussy girl/smiling grandparents one. Who better understands that a fuss is just a fuss than grandma and grandpa?
I adored meeting you guys, what a great way to start 2017!
Welcome to the world, little B! I got to meet this sweet girl last weekend on the day she turned 4 weeks old. She’s perfect.
First I have to show you this shot – I love when this happens spontaneously! Mama was looking lovingly on in the background and look what we got. Love this.
What a beauty.
I also loved getting to know her big (canine) siblings — they’re settling into this new life as protectors-of-the-babe really well! It’s tough when a new little human arrives. But they’re being super sweet with her.
You know, I take pictures of a lot of teenagers because I’ve been doing what I do for twelve years now, which means tons of the original “babies” of Boston Baby Photos are heading into their teens now. I love seeing all those kids every year as they grow. But you know what else is really fun? Meeting new families who have teenagers! I love the fun of meeting new people, and we can relax and have fun right away with older kids.
That was the case with these guys – their elder daughter is thirteen and their younger is ten, and the most important thing for these guys was making sure we got great photos with their parents.
That we can do! But first we needed to grab a photo of these cute parents.
Thanks so much for coming to meet me for a minishoot in the Public Garden. I loved getting to know you guys.
This is #14 in my series of Family Retrospective Videos – for more information about this project or to sign up to be added to the list of families who wants one, click this link and scroll down the page through the previous posts back to the first or second one (where I describe it in more detail). And I’ll freely admit it – I’m five months late with this one. I promised them this one in March and I’m really posting it in August but I’m back-dating it. Hoping to do a bunch of these videos this August so I can catch up a bit. Thanks so much for your patience, guys!
The gorgeous mama in these photos was my last boss in the real world – before I left and became a photographer full-time. She hired me for photos a decade ago, and I’m honored to say they’ve had me come back for photos every year since. We started doing photos when Lizzi was three and Will was one – and it’s been such fun touching base and watching them grow since then.
And without further ado, here’s a 5 minute video of Lizzi and Will’s family with photos from eleven photoshoots over the last ten years:
(Hint: Start playing the video, and then click on the little gear thing that takes you to “Settings” in the bottom right corner of the video. Choose 720p to make the slideshow play in high-definition. You can also choose “Full Screen” down there in that corner of the video too.)
Look at these sweet girls! They’re five months old now, and they’re doing so well. They were born teenie tiny preemies, and they’ve spent these last five months being fabulous, getting stronger and grinning.
It’s always my little challenge to myself when I photograph twins to see if I can learn which twin is which during the hour I spend with a family, and then really get those names/faces into my head so that a couple of weeks later when I’m deep into editing their photos, those names look like those faces. OK, be honest… you have to tell me, did I remember right?
On the left we have Ms. J and on the right it’s V… how’d I do?
And then they’ve switched places in this one, V on the left and J on the right…
You got me on this one ;)

It was just wonderful to meet you! Thanks so much for having me.
I adored meeting this little sweet lady a couple of weeks ago. So glad her parents asked me to post a few photos on the blog – these make me so happy. This house was just bursting with 11 days of love :)
I was so thrilled to hear that these guys were having a third sweet babe, and meeting her was just wonderful. It was a hot day last weekend, and this sweet lady was only 12 days old. Her big sisters gave her tons of love – I think they’re pretty excited :)
This guy is moving around like it’s his job. Nine months old, and nothing stops this guy. He’s just perfection, and I loved seeing him again for another shoot from his Baby’s First Year package.
You really can’t beat the daddy squishing face moments, or the super happy reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar with mama. I do love the nibbling Sophie the giraffe one, though, and my very favorite might be the one on the bed as he laughs at both his parents.
It’s so fun for me to know people first as friends and then get a chance to take their pictures – I love that. I’m lucky enough to have met many many people as clients first and then over years and years of watching their babies grow they become friends. But this one is the opposite… friends first, and now yay, getting a chance to photograph them! I’m feeling gushy today, sorry. Maybe it’s editing pictures of one of my daughter’s best friends, and one of my favorite neighbors… When I get a chance to take pictures of kids I’ve hung around with, played with… it’s just such an amazing feeling. I feel like I know the smiles so well, I just adore being able to capture them.
I was so thrilled these guys bid on and won this session at the Ashmont Nursery School auction last month, because it’d been just exactly a year since their last session with me, and I was so excited to see big 2 year old B again. He did not disappoint – I adore the fun pictures we got. What a dream of a kiddo :) I am especially in love with this mama and B picture (what with Mother’s Day coming on Sunday – I’ve got my mind on mamas)… just super sweet.
