I was so excited when these guys told me they were expecting another baby. Yay for a baby sister – and what a cutie patootie!
Big brother has so much love for his baby sister – it’s extraordinary! He wanted to keep playing with her and playing with her… he has just endless love to give. She’s a lucky girl, to have this big guy ready to play with her right away.
I was honored to meet your sweet new girl, thank you so much for having me out!
I really do get goosebumps when I arrive in Beacon Hill as a newborn photographer. I love walking those streets. Last week it was early morning when I was arriving for our pictures with this new little guy. The sun was warming my back, and I almost skipped as I came up the hill to their house. Nothing like following my GPS, not quite sure where I’ll park, but excited to start a new journey with an entirely new family.
And when I get to be the newborn photographer for an old friend who’s just had his first baby?
Well that’s when it just couldn’t be more perfect.
But wait, there’s more. Because this boy was just too much. Look at that tummy! Those toes! That soft squishy back!
And I didn’t even explain to you about his amazingly creative mama. She takes beautiful photos of her sweet boy all the time. But she’s never IN the photos. You know the problem? Where you’re not sure your child will even remember you were there for those early days? We decided to remedy that, and took special care to really carefully document mama and her boy. (The hair pulling one cracks me up.)
And then it was time to put on some clothes and maybe have a little snack. Because a little nursing break can sometimes fix everything.
And when better to show everybody my new Baby’s First Year coffeetable albums and Baby’s First Year package options. So much to consider!
And then a little pat on the back… Aaaaand burp!
p.s. I adored getting to meet you, sweet boy. Hope you love love love your photos!
I was thrilled to meet this gorgeous three month old baby boy for his newborn photoshoot last weekend. Sometimes people say to me “I missed my window for newborn photos!” when they call me and their baby is two, three, four… five months old. I always tell them not to worry, that doing photos any time in the first year of their baby’s life will be fantastic. Of course I want to get started early so we can tell the story of your baby’s first year fully (I have a package of a few photoshoots over the course of a baby’s first year that’s really fun to do), but any time you want to do photos is a great time to do it.
I mean, look at this cutie patootie – 3 1/2 months old and absolute perfection. I mean, the rolls on the back of his neck? Those tootsie toes? Just divine.
Even through rain, snow, sleet or hail, your newborn photoshoot will happen
This may sound weird, but I love making my way to see families after big snowstorms. They’re snuggled in their cozy house with their new baby, and I navigate the ridiculous Boston roads to make my way there – happily leaving my own wild animals at home… and I arrive at their house, to the warmth, the love, cuddles… I just truly love my job. I adored tromping through the wet slush on the way to this newborn photoshoot, knowing I’d arrive somewhere just bursting with love.
Because guys, even his knuckles have dimples! Squeeeeeeal.
And even better, mama said she’s considering canvases! Mmmm wall consulting, my new jam. Thanks again for having me, I loved meeting you guys and your sweet new boy.
On Friday after school my kids and I hopped in the car in Milton, MA and grabbed my husband from work so we could drive down to Westfield, NJ to (finally) take newborn photos of my beloved college roommate’s new baby.
A busy time of life: but still time for newborn photos
They’re deep in it, guys. You can picture it — they have a 22 month old and a 2 month old. They’re busy! But this also means they’re card-carrying members of that elusive, ephemeral club that I love to document: the two under two club.
We’re talking that time of life when you’re feeding the newborn and you have to call out to the twenty-two month old and suggest she wait to go up the stairs until she has someone with her… it’s a lot.
But I’m so grateful that we took the time to do these newborn photos! Photos are so precious when we’re able to do them at this time of life — so we can remember the way big sister was so loving with her baby sister… the kisses on the top of her head, the gentle pats B gave M… just so much love.
Love just bursting, bubbling, oozing out of them, all the time. Joy, love, gratitude… they have all of it in spades.
I adored meeting miss M, and loved seeing big sister B. And they even indulged me and let me do a wall consulting meeting while I was there! May as well peek at frames and talk about what to hang where when we’re shooting pictures, right? Why not?
This sweet girl arrived at the end of 2016, but I got to meet her just last week for her newborn photos. I can’t wait to go back for her six month and one year shots – what a treat. Yay for the Baby’s First Year package :)
I have to say I think my favorite photo is this last fussy girl/smiling grandparents one. Who better understands that a fuss is just a fuss than grandma and grandpa?
I adored meeting you guys, what a great way to start 2017!
I was so honored to be invited to meet this gorgeous new babe last week – sweet little lady girl of a wonderful high school friend. Aren’t these ladies just perfect together?
Look at that cute little face:
And even when a little fuss erupted, mama soothed her right down.
Sometimes all you need is a little mama cuddle.
Or maybe just a nice tight swaddle…
We were able to spend a bit of time in her grandma’s beautiful garden.
And do you believe this foot is smaller than mama’s index finger?
Photoshoots are hard work, man.
Adored meeting this sweet love. She’s just perfection. See you SOON!
Welcome to the world, little B! I got to meet this sweet girl last weekend on the day she turned 4 weeks old. She’s perfect.
First I have to show you this shot – I love when this happens spontaneously! Mama was looking lovingly on in the background and look what we got. Love this.
What a beauty.
I also loved getting to know her big (canine) siblings — they’re settling into this new life as protectors-of-the-babe really well! It’s tough when a new little human arrives. But they’re being super sweet with her.
A smile for Dad!
Trying on a cute hat…
It was wonderful to meet you guys!
This sweet pumpkin has so much love surrounding her! She was nine days old when we took these photos, and her big 4 1/2 year old sister and her big 2 1/2 year old brother just showered her with attention for the whole photoshoot.
Also, I so often blog my newborn in-home sessions in black and white, I wanted to change it up for you here – every session I shoot is always provided to my clients in both black and white and color, but I sometimes forget to blog the color shots so you can see the cuties’ pink cheeks too.
Why do so many baby photographers like to photograph a sleeping baby? They’re sweet, and of COURSE I will happily take photos of your sleeping baby for you. I loved watching my own babies sleep – there’s nothing like listening to them breathe, watching how relaxed they are — I get it. (Posing a sleeping baby – hmmm, that’s probably another blog post for another time. Nothing against it, just not really my thing. Cute, very Anne Geddes, I get it… but I feel like it’s a different art form, honestly. I think of those photos as more of a still life than a way of documenting a new person who just arrived into the world… but I digress…)
So we can do sleeping shots if you’re into it, but I do think once you have those handful of photos of them sleeping, it’s great to move on and show the world who this little person is becoming!
There’s just so much more to document when babies are awake. I mean, just LOOK at this sweet girl. She was snoozing when I arrived, but she eventually woke up and had the best time for her photos.
Wait, are you sure you’re only 4 weeks old? What’s with all the gorgeous smiles?
And even when the fuss happened it was adorable.
So wonderful to meet you guys! Welcome to the world, little T. Can’t wait to see you for more photos in a few months!
This sweet boy was only 12 days old when I got to meet him back in early April. Sorry it’s taken me so long to blog you guys! I adored getting to see you and meet your little guy.
Welcome to the world, little guy! There’s lots of love in this room for you :)
Twenty-hmm-hmm years ago the Conn College housing office placed me in a room with this little beauty’s mama, and after a summer phone call and a few snail mail letters to figure out who was bringing the mini-fridge, we were off and running. I’ll skip the details of the last twenty-hmm-hmm years for little B’s benefit, but suffice it to say we’ve had our fair share of adventures. And now you guys are starting a new one!
Welcome to the world, sweet 2 1/2 week old B! I adored meeting you this week and I can’t wait to see you again soon. Look at this little fair-haired love.
She has extraordinarily fun parents – things are only going to get more awesome, kiddo. Just wait. Sleeping through the night? I highly recommend it. You should try it.
Wait for it… wait for it… and YES! Doesn’t this expression just kill you? And the dimple? Come on now.
They’re already having a blast with this little lady.
I love this one. Neck wrinkles. Yum.
Ms. B needed her sponge bath – she didn’t mind it a bit. Dad’s a pro.
But really the bath was all about getting a photo in the elephant towel. Because — elephant towel.
Those eyes :)
I’ve developed an unhealthy obsession with this photo of B’s back-of-the-head hair. That spot is just so delicious!
And one more to make you smile. You’re perfect and amazing, sweet B. I adored meeting you.

Last month, this sweet boy J joined their family:
Don’t you love his out-of-focus big brother/pup standing guard in the background here?
It was wonderful to meet you guys, thank you for introducing me to your sweet boy. Can’t wait to come back and see him again!
I just emailed this concept to a new mama client the other day and she said it was the best advice she’d received yet. Figured I should share :)
Look at these sweet eyes! Loved meeting this little guy last weekend. Just dreamy.
this next one is just so hilariously sad – life sure does change for pups when babies arrive…
Look at these eyes, don’t you just love them? This little guy was 13 days old the other day when I came over for some pictures, and he was just a dream.
And I have to admit I always love a newborn smile – this one was perfection.
A champion head-holder-upper already!
What a fun photoshoot – we exhausted him! Thanks so much for having me, it was wonderful meeting you all.
