I met these four up in Maine on my way to a family vacation (I don’t usually get up to Maine for shoots, so this was super fun to shoot on a warm coastal beach up there), and I have to let the pictures speak for themselves here. Just awesome.

Another incredible year for this guy. Nothing comes easy for him, but you really can’t tell when you spend time with him. He’s six now, and doing so well with his walking, swinging, playing basketball… I just can’t explain how impressive he is. He’s also super loving and having a great time with his fun parents. I adore so many of these, it’s so hard to pick a favorite. I’m a sucker for a good tickle picture, but quiet moments like the one where he’s sitting with his mom by the water laughing and looking down and mom is doing the same – the dimple there kills me. I also keep going back to the one where Dad is handing him the basketball – it seems like the beginning of something :)
Wonderful to spend time with you guys as always!
Oh, the wrist rolls! Oh the expressions! I got to spend Sunday morning with this fantastic little guy, and now I’m going back through these pictures and I can’t choose a favorite. I think I have to go with the moment when he was really having a tough time (he was tired) and having this exhaustion fit — lying on his back, wailing up at his parents, who were soothing him with his teddy bear. The bear started to do the trick, and he rolled over onto his tummy and looked at me, kneeling by the side of the bed… and gave me the biggest grin. That’s this first picture below here. Isn’t it wonderful? It was just this moment of a wicked, sweet, darling smile. Back to exhaustion soon after, but boy this guy has a great grin. I’ll let you make your own choices for favorites, but I’ll finish my commentary by saying it was such fun to meet this guy.
It’s only once in a blue moon that one of my very best friends in the world has a baby, and no matter what, I have to be there to document that baby’s first days. I just have to. So when one of my oldest and dearest college friends adopted this two month old Wheaten Terrier yesterday, I had to be there within moments of her arrival home. Because puppies are babies too! And now little Piper is totally jumping the line – ahead of two patient families waiting for their pictures from me. I hope you guys understand – this one just had to be blogged quickly… isn’t she adorable?
We love you Piper, oh yes we do, we love you Piper, and we’ll be true… when you’re not with us, we’re blue… Oh Piper, we love you. xoxo
It was warm on Tuesday, and we met up for pictures just about midday – but that didn’t stop these three. They always have such fantastic energy, and I love this one of the three of them – dimples and all. But I think my number one picture is the toes one, though. I really think it’d look so cool printed huge on some wall in your house, Katie – color or b&w – either. Love it. The one in the wagon cracks me up, too – the three of them are making such different funny expressions. And the more stoic ones of each of the kids – the non-smiley ones? I love those. Eyelashes galore. And the one towards the end where S is crawling across the gorgeous dining room with the cool chandelier? Digging on that one too.
Really fun to see you guys as always!
OK, hands down favorite from this session is this one of sweet little 4 month old M, as she makes her parents giggle almost as much as she’s giggling. Also love the one where her mom’s head is turned, and we see the back of sweet M’s head and little soft arm… The daddy kissing her when she was feeling a bit down is also a fave. The one where she’s crying is so tremendously sad, but it’s so strongly emotional – that one gets me too. It was such fun getting to know you guys!
When they’re your own kids you’re photographing, I know (from experience) that you’re tempted to put the camera down when it (inevitably) dissolves into chaos. When the breakdown begins, count five seconds extra – let yourself shoot those couple of extra frames before you get involved. You won’t necessarily win any parenting awards (do they even give those out, though?) but maybe you’ll get a perfect picture. And mayhem is fun to remember, too.
These guys finished off their Baby’s First Year package last week with sweet J’s one year photoshoot. It’s been so wonderful to see him grow this year. My favorite art shot is the grass handoff between J and dad, but the cheesy grin picture is also too fantastic for words. It really looks like we asked him to smile and he granted our wish :) He also looks just like he’s reading to his mom in the book picture… smart kiddo. I also really like the one where he’s lying in mom’s lap – a really sweet moment. And my last favorite is the one inside where he was playing with blocks, with mum and dad watching from two different points in the picture.
Thanks so much for a great year of pictures, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
