It’s hard sometimes as a photographer to let things happen naturally. We’re so inclined to drive the action, to lead kids into smiles by making funny faces or noises. But some of the best moments I’ve ever captured are those ones where kids are reacting to each other, instead of to me.

Ooh, I was so lucky to get to spend some time with this little guy on Monday. He’s just four weeks old, and he’d just had a long drive back from the Cape, but he was an absolute trooper! He just had the best expressions. Can’t decide which of these is my favorite. I love the way he’s looking at his dad when he’s gripping his finger with his whole hand – just such a smile in his eyes. Also loving the mama and grandma shots we got – again, it’s that look in his eye, so adoring. And of course I had to get a dachshund licking pic – although this time the lick is for mom :)
Wonderful to meet you guys!
I loved getting a chance to see E again last week – she’s perfect, all rolls and grins. We even got a chance to do a picture of her with photos of her two namesakes – one from each side of the family. I’m having a hard time deciding which picture I like the best: the wrinkly-nose one where she’s grinning at her dad, the closeup with the long delightful eyelashes, the playing-with-mom’s hair one… or the lying on her tummy one. I think maybe it’s the tummy one – that bum is just too fantastic. Gorgeous girl with her lovely (inside and out) parents. :)
BTW, I’m playing with a new way to blog my favorite handful of photos from the session – is this a fun way to look at them, or should I go back to the standard list of photos that scrolls down the page?
What a fun group!
It all started with these two…
Then they had three gorgeous daughters…
And the family just keeps getting bigger…
Some cousin races…
And cousin faces…
Wonderful to see you guys and meet the rest of you!
Let ’em get loud. Shoot, shoot, shoot while the tickling, hollering, guffawing happens – because later when you look at the pictures, they actually seem to have an audio track. You can almost HEAR the giggles.
How do you spell “noogie”? Think that’s it? Or Nougie? Nuggy? Well, that’s my favorite part of this picture. I LOVE these noogie-giving brothers. Been taking pictures of their family for almost a decade and it makes me so happy to see them.
Two of their cousins were there too – gorgeous ladies I’ve been seeing since they were wee ones too…
And they got a pup this year – he’s the sweetest little guy…
And he even poses like a champ:
So wonderful to see you guys as always!
Six months, two years old and six years old – three fabulous boys. The toes only tell some of the story… they look so relaxed here… (adorable nonetheless)
I love the energy from the bigger boys in this one and then also little D’s face… plotting an escape?
But really this was supposed to be all about little D – his six month photos. Isn’t he perfect?
Getting a lick:
Riding in the Gator:
So fun to play with you guys!
These sunny days of summer allow for fast shutter speeds that capture water droplets in a super-cool way. Find a shady spot in the yard (sun is fun too if you’re ready for a little more challenge) put your camera in manual mode and tell it you want it to do 1/400th of a second for shutter speed or something like that… (if you’re in the shade on a nice sunny day, choose an ISO of 400 or so to give you more wiggle room with shutter speed). Your camera’s metering will tell you what aperture works best for where you are, and then let ’em SPLASH!
These two cousins don’t get tons of time to be 3 years old together – they live in different countries! But I think they made up for lost time when they got together last week – they adored every minute of playtime.
Not to mention they got tons of time with their grandma:
And then we got to go to the beach :)
I loved, loved, loved seeing you guys!
